AUTHOR OF THE YEAR!

Faith was born to British and Danish immigrants just as the United States was coming out of the Great Depression. Her Dad, an adventurous Norseman, came to the U.S. to follow his dreams for a better future. He inspired Faith to be awake to possibilities and to have the courage to pursue them. And she still does, with tenacity and creativity, going out of the box and to the edge.

Faith’s journey has had many steps (not stops) along the way. She graduated with honors from Middlebury College and has her master’s and doctoral degrees from Yale University. She has been a biochemist, an expert in radioactive materials, a computer systems analyst, an entrepreneur, a sculptor, a middle school teacher, and recently an author of inspirational articles and books. And being the Mom of two wonderful sons adds a dimension to her journey and perspective on life that she would never have had otherwise.

Her sculptures were exhibited in galleries and cultural centers throughout the Washington D.C. area and are in private and healthcare collections.

Until recently, Faith’s writings were technical, in the areas of biochemistry, weapons of mass destruction, and radioactive waste management.

However, after undergoing surgery and radiation for cancer, she was asked to write an article on the role of the arts in healing. “The Arts are Healing!” was published in New World Health, Sterling Publishing Group, London, England, 1995.

As a teacher of middle school students, she prepared curriculum on the History of Western European Painting, and designed a series of art kits for home schooling. Her book From Here to There and Back with a Quack! is an inspiring story for children of all ages. In her recently published book, From Silence to Wonder: A Journey from Sorrow to Peace, Faith’s sculptures offer messages for contemplation.

Someone described Faith as a rare combination of left-brained and right-brained—whole-brained. She says she’ll take that!

She is a member of the Society for the Arts in Healthcare and a subscriber to the ABC Children’s Group at the American Book- sellers Association.

Faith has received many awards, but the most recent, and humbling, is the Author of the Year award by her publisher, Mascot Books. She is deeply grateful.
