From Silence to Wonder: A Journey from Sorrow to Peace
Meet the Author and Artist, Faith NielsenOn her journey through life, Faith has been a biochemist, an expert in the field of radioactive materials, a computer systems analyst, an entrepreneur, a teacher and a sculptor. Faith graduated from Middlebury College and has advanced degrees from Yale University. Faith’s journey has had many steps along the way. Most of them were in the scientific world. But throughout that journey, her real passion has been in the arts. The creation of her sculptures called upon both inspiration and scientific and analytical skills. With steel forms, space and color, she created patterns in moments of equilibrium between balance and counterbalance, peace and energy, and mass and space. The concept for a piece, and later the details, came when she was not in a mental space, that is “of no mind”. As such, she was guided through the creative process that determined the size and shape of the steel, the placement of the pieces, the painting of the background and the design of the patterns on the steel. Her sculptures were exhibited throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, including a two-person juried show at The Mansion Art Gallery of the Rockville Civic Center, Maryland. Her work was also featured in juried group exhibitions at Hood College, Frederick, Maryland; the Sumner School Museum and Archives, Washington, D.C.; and McCrillis Gardens and Gallery, Bethesda, Maryland. Her sculptures are in several private collections and healthcare facilities. As author of From Here to There and Back with a Quack! and From Silence to Wonder: A Journey from Sorrow to Peace, Faith was selected Author of the Year by her publisher, Mascot Books.
